When will Couch Fest Films be in 2012?
Couch Fest Films is scheduled to be WORLDWIDE on Saturday, November 10th, 2012.How long will Couch Fest Films be?
It's a little early right now for us to nail down the schedule. It's likely that we'll just work with the hosts to find times that work best for them. Some locations like to schedule movies for the whole day. Other locations like the idea of having only a single show time. We are pretty flexible.
What if I want to go see the amazing short films?
Well, of course you'll want to go see the other films. You have good taste in films and film fests. All hosts will be invited to watch the films beforehand. This way you won't miss out.
Why do you charge admission?
Our model is that hosts charge audience members a modest fee to watch the films in each house. For example, in Seattle, it was $5 per house. Why do we do this? One is, honestly, we were always worried that if the festival were free it would make hosts nervous that anyone and everyone could just walk right into their house--people who were maybe just bored and had no real understanding of the love of film, community or the idea behind the festival. By charging around$5, it hopefully gives the host houses a little bit of assurance that people who are coming are willing to pay, want to be there, and want to see the films and do understand the idea behind the event.
Hopefully our humble approach still fits with your vision.
What am I expected to do?
Oh, this is where it gets interesting. You are, first, suppose to enjoy yourself. To host, you should be excited about opening your glorious residency to film lovers. At a basic level, you should have a TV and a DVD player. Other than that, it's up to you. Some houses are excited about hosting and have developed themes. Some houses are considering serving homemade lemonade. It's really up to you. Show off.How many people will be in the house?
Good question. There will be anywhere from five people to twenty respectful people ready to watch films in your dandy house. Though, if you house holds more, then let's comfortably squeeze in more film lovers!
Where will the films come from?
We have spent too many months in the dark attending many of the most respectable film festivals in the world to bring the very best films. We also receive films from around the world and only accept the very best. We do this because if you have crappy films, you have a crappy film festival. We would get into a dirty school-yard fight defending every single film that we accept for our festival. Here is a list of some of the film festivals we attend to find films that we like: SXSW, SF Shorts, CFC Worldwide Shorts, Seattle International Film Festival, Melbourne International Film Festival, International Random Film Festival, and the New Horizon Film Festival. How will I receive the films to play at my house?
Depending on how organized we make ourselves and what is easiest for you, we will have a number of options. We can either send you the program DVD, make it available through our FTP site or you can access the disc image with dropbox. Immediately after the festival, you will be required to destroy your copy--fun!Can I request a volunteer help me on the day of Couch Fest Films?
Of course! We are proud of our volunteers and they would love to come help you be part of the success. Feel free to playfully haze them. Can I sell food or drinks?
We thought about this question. We wondered if it might feel a little tacky selling things to people. But, if you wanted to have a yard sale in front of your house while hosting, well, that would be pretty rad. So, if you aren't sure, just drop us a specific question. Will I get paid?
We will provide a unique day, one non-counterfeit Couch Fest Films T-shirt and one copy of the Couch Fest Films 2012 highlights DVD. Hosts will also earn 10 percent of ticket sales.
